2009=Expensive
So we've started off the new year unexpectedly forking out tons of money that we don't have. On Friday I went to grab some ice cubes and noticed that they looked very translucent. Upon gazing around our freezer I noticed my frozen bread dough was starting to rise and was no longer rock hard. Sure enough our refrigerator tanked. It was a long time coming but I think we took for granted that despite the unusual noises it produced that it would just keep on working. So needless to say thank God for Hom.e Depo.ts 12 months of no payments or interest. We ended up getting a fridge to match our microwave in stainless steel because we didn't want to start down the road of mismatched appliances, especially if we are going to end up having to move. All the appliances are the original ones from when the house was built, though it's only 11 years old the appliances were cheap to begin with, so we're going to have to upgrade them all before we move in order to entice buyers to even "glance" at our house.
The contents of our refrigerator is in our garage right now so I feel like total white trash going to the garage every time we need something and pulling it off our wooden garage shelving. We took most of our freezer stuff to the neighbor's house. She has a freezer in her garage that was pretty much empty and then rest of our stuff is in a cooler on our back step, another very white trashy looking and feeling thing. We won't get our new fridge until Wednesday :( but at least it's winter time!
The next expense was my prescriptions that I got filled today without insurance. I made the mistake of thinking that my prenatals were a supply of 90 days and since they were generic it wouldn't be that much to just refill them. Well needless to say it was over $17 for a one month supply. I could just kick myself because I could have went to Sam.s Clu.b and gotten a several months supply for cheaper than that, so frustrating! I also paid out of pocket for my birth control pills which were over $36. So when all was said and done it was over $50 for 2 one month supplies of pills.
We also had to buy and install a new garage door opener. The one we had totally broke and we had no way to lock our garage. It was installed so shotty and it was also a piece of crap. There have been so many break ins in our subdivision that we didn't want to risk getting the contents of our garage stolen because we had no way to lock our garage.

A Long Night
I'm taking a little hiatus from money saving ideas to answer some of your questions and write about how I got no sleep last night, or at least very little. I'll begin with the sleep issue because it's definitely on my mind. I can't figure out what I've been eating but Baby M has the worst gas and hasn't slept good for several nights. I'm beginning to think that it might be the oatmeal I've been having for breakfast because it's last for several days and that's the only different thing I've really been eating. I go through spurts with my breakfast foods. Since I've been subbing I decided that oatmeal might be a better choice because it will stick with me longer since I can't eat whenever I want. I usually have cold cereal but I think 2 times last week I had oatmeal and then I had it yesterday. I'm having cold cereal this morning and then I'll be sure to pay close attention to everything else I'm eating because it may have just been a coincidence but man it's been hell not getting any sleep. R and I have been trading off. I'll feed him and then pass him off to R and he'll try to get him back to sleep until 2 hours have passed and it's time for him to eat again.
I think my milk supply is down since I've been working at the elementary schools (they have longer days) and I worked in the elementary level 4 days last week. In fact, Baby M had to have his first formula bottle last Thursday and then again on Friday :( I'm really depressed about that. I pump in the mornings and evenings, in addition to usually twice while I'm at school, but it's hard to get a lot extra since I'm also feeding him. I tried to get some advice from La.Leche Le.ague last night (they have online Q and A sessions) and they pretty much just told me to try to get one more pumping session in during the day while I'm at work. It's hard though because I don't get many breaks and they are never at the same time because it depends on what school I'm at and what the specific classroom's schedule is for that day. They also told me to try Fenu.greek supplements to help with increasing my milk supply, have any of you tried those?? We were at Whol.e Foo.ds yesterday too and I could have found them there but I didn't know until last night. I've never heard of them before and don't know anyone who's tried them. I guess though the G.NC brand isn't good so if you do want to try them they said don't get that brand.
On to the coupon questions. Check with your local grocery store because I know that a lot of them double them if they are 50 cents or under (Meij.er does I know) also if you have reusable grocery bags some stores will take 10 cents off your grocery bill so check with your local store because those might be a great investment. Also, the stores will double them all the time, doesn't matter what day you shop the sale ad will usually tell about the store's specific coupon policies so check that out. I have such a huge stash of coupons right now and I've found the best way to organize them is by categories (dairy, cleaning, canned goods, etc...) this way when you are going through the sale ad you can go straight to your specific category to see if you have any coupons.
I'd never heard of Re.d Bo.x before but I looked it up, very cool, unfortunately we don't have one close enough to us :( On the bright side our local library started renting their movies from Monday to Monday and it's still only $1!!!!!!! So that's a plus. Well I have to pack my lunch and pump so I need to get going. Hope everyone has a great day!!!!

Money Saving Tips
So if there is one thing that I've learned since R lost his job, it's how to survive without much money. I thought that I would take what I have learned and share them with you since my life pretty much revolves around saving a buck and making something out of nothing. Enjoy my tips and hopefully you will find them interesting/helpful.
So if there is one thing that I've learned since R lost his job, it's how to survive without much money. I thought that I would take what I have learned and share them with you since my life pretty much revolves around saving a buck and making something out of nothing. Enjoy my tips and hopefully you will find them interesting/helpful.
- Cut coupons- I'm sure most of you have given up on this because it seems like more of a pain than anything. You either have to buy multiple items or end up buying what you don't need just because you have a coupon. The key to coupon cutting is aligning them with the sales at your local store. I know they don't exist everywhere but Krog.er is a life saver here in MI. They double coupons up to $1!!!!! Check with your local grocery store to see if you have one near you that will double coupons. Every week I get the ad that lists all the sale items and see if I have coupons for the items. I have been getting a lot of things for free because if I have a coupon that gets doubled a lot of times it's more than what the item costs on sale. For example, last week they had Colg.ate toothpaste on sale for $2 and I have a $1 off coupon for it, that got doubled, so it was free!!!! I have gotten so much for either really cheap or free by using this method and it seriously saves on our grocery bill. The key is to buy 2 or 3 Sunday papers so you can start a fat coupon stash and then keep adding to it each week.
- Stock up on sale items- Milk and eggs and other staples that I can't find coupons for I usually stock up when they go on sale. As long as you pay close attention to the expiration dates you can usually buy milk and eggs and other such items in bulk with dates far in enough in advance to last you until you can find another sale somewhere. This week our local grocery store has milk 2 for $5 so I know that we'll use 2-3 gallons of milk within the next 2 weeks so I'm going tonight to buy a few more gallons to have on hand for the next week or so.
- Watch out for items that are close to expiration- The past two weeks I have gotten Yo.plait plain yogurt for $1.50 for the large size carton because it's getting close to it's expiration date. I bought it yesterday and it expires on the 18th so I just make sure that we use the majority of it before the expiration, but even if we don't it stays good for several days after the date listed. You can get great deals on items that are about ready to expire if you just keep your eye out. You can also find meat on sale that is close to expiring and as long as you plan to use it that day or put it in the freezer you can get some great discounts.
- Get cheap entertainment- Check out your local library for movies or your local movie theater for deals. We got 2 movies on Friday so we could have a pajama party with Little man and then a date night for R and I, for $2 and they don't have to be returned until tomorrow. Our local library has a pretty wide selection of movies and they are $1 for two nights but since they aren't open on Sundays we get to keep them until Monday. Also, our local movie theater runs a special that if you go to a movie before 12pm then it's only $5. They also have an e-mail club that you can join in which they will send you e-mails that include a coupons for a free popcorn periodically. They also run kids movie specials monthly where it's $3 for the child and parents are free and they show the special kid flick on Wed, Sat and Sun mornings.
I'll be writing another post soon with more tips so stay tuned!

I Could Go to Bed
It's not even 6:30pm but I am confident if I went to sleep right now I could sleep sound until morning. The past two days have been great but so very busy. I've been getting up at 4:30am just so I can feed Baby M twice, get ready, pack up all my pump parts and necessities, and not be rushed. The past two days were a great way to ease back into work. I was reading the MI standardized test to individual students because they required it read to them in a one on one setting. So in the past two days I have read the math portion of the test, consisting of two parts and 58 questions, four different times. By read I mean, "What is the remainder when 20 is divided by 3? A. 1, B. 0, C. 2, and D. 4. Though it was tedious it was a great day because I had so much time off. When my student was done I had a really long lunch break, perfect for pumping, and then when my second student I tested in the afternoon was done I was free to leave for the day. So yesterday I had a break from about 10-12 and got to leave at 1:40, today I had a break from 9:45-12 and then got to leave at 1:15pm. I couldn't have asked for better jobs. I had plenty of time to go to the car and pump during my lunch break and I was able to get home early enough to feed Baby M his 1:30ish feeding. He had 3 bottles yesterday and 2 today.
The only downfall is that I'm exhausted. I've had about 8 hours of sleep between the two nights and then I'm tutoring 5 hours tonight and tutored for 3 hours last night. I have a total of 18 hours tutoring this week. I feel empowered though that I'm contributing so much money to our family. R called about our mortgage today and we're going to be able to wait to pay Nov which is going to be awesome, well awesome given our situation. So things are going okay for right now but R is still having a hard time. He's at least apologized and is communicating his feelings more.

First to Post
Finally in my one online class that I usually put off until later in the week I was the FIRST to post my answer to my dicussion question today! I was proactive and e-mailed myself the download of the article last night so I could print it at work today. I started reading it when I got home from work and then finished after Little Man went to bed. I had a connection after reading the article so I figured, why not be the first to post, since normally I'm the last. I have a 6 page paper to write for Friday so I have a ton to do this week. At least now I have that out of the way. My one class is done in two weeks!!!!!! One down like 5 more to go after my second one gets done the end of April. The second class is going to be a lot of work because I actually have to go my research project so this will give me more time to focus on that.
Spring break is officially 4 days away and I cannot wait. The kids are so ready for the year to be over, but more so they are just ready for a break. They've worked so hard I can't blame them for slacking these days, however, we still have a lot of ground to cover. It seems like everytime we take two steps forward, we take one step backward. Just when I think we mastered subtracting with regrouping, we have a little mixed review and they all TANK it. Teaching really is a frustrating career.
So R and I aren't on super good terms right now. I've come to realize that he spends money and puts us in cruntches to get back at me for God only knows what. He enjoys getting back at me in a way that he knows really bothers me. I've decided to distance myself and withdraw to think a little bit. Not totally, just a little bit. I recently learned that he is in WAY more credit card debt that I thought and I really am starting to think about if this is something that I can live with for the rest of my life? It stresses me out so much and all I want is to be happy, taking money out of the equation. I don't want to live paycheck to paycheck and I don't want to end up having to file bankrupcy before I'm 30. He's just a spend freak and I think it roots from his shitty childhood. I can't talk to him about money at all because it immediately starts a fight. I'm thinking of getting his parents involved but they are just as bad as him. I'm thinking of separating from him when we move back to Michigan. I definitely don't want to get a divorce, but he's not being fair to me or Little Man. We have debt up to our ears and all this stupid worthless crap that I don't even want. I'm not a materialistic type person and I think he brings out the worse in me. I know that I can get myself out of debt, but I can't do it for both of us when one person doesn't want to play ball. He doesn't see that he's ruining our family or trying to fill some void in his life.
I think it may have something to do with resentment. He thinks that I got pregnant on purpose 2 years ago and that is anything but farther from the truth. I thought we had worked through that and decided that we wanted to be together but he just seems like he's screaming for independance and justs wants to take care of himself. He wants all sorts of toys and who cares that we don't have ANY money for anything. We live paycheck to paycheck yet our combined income was nearing six-figures. What the hell? I'm definitely NOT a spend freak. I'm actually the coupon cutting bargain type person. I just don't know what to do. I really want to do whatever is necessary to get out of debt, but again it needs to be a two way street. My dream is to own a house someday and that is never going to happen if we keep on the way we are right now. He buys things and then lies to me about what he's bought. I'm so fed up with all this and I'm at the point where I just want to throw in the towel because it is easier than having fight after fight after fight. I'm at my wits end and I have no one that I can talk to.
Sorry for all you subject to my rants and venting. I'm not convinced that anyone reads this anyway so it's really just a way to get my feelings down. I'm trying to work on myself. I'm so unhappy and I think it's mostly because of him. I love him and he has some very good qualities, but I'm beginning to think that the negatives weight out the positives. Go figure this is my lot in life. I was so terrified my whole life of ending up like this and what's happening, my worst fear. I probably sent myself up for this. I repeat the same patterns all the time and I thought I had rose above trying to mold someone into what I wanted, but apparently I've done it once again. I'm really fearing what's going to happen in the next couple of months and I just hope that God gives me the strength to work through this time in my life. Thanks for reading and listening. I would love any comments that anyone has.

What's Wrong With Fridays?
It's so weird, but Fridays always suck for me. They are just my worst day of the week. Of course today was no different. R calls me at work because a credit card company just called looking for me.....WTF??? I totally missed paying my bill and I had no idea I had gone over my limit. This is absolutely no like me and I'm personally very embarrassed. I couldn't contain my tears when I had to call and rectify the situation because I know that they get this all the time and I'm not that type of person. They asked me why it happened and I was honest and just said that I overlooked it. I would have usually made up something, but I couldn't even come up with anything that would make this okay. I am very upset with myself. I'm not sure when it happened but I'm terrible with money. I used to be so good and never spend anything. I remember when I was little and my mom actually had to encourage me to spend a little money now and then because I saved every little penny. It's not that she didn't want me to spend, but she wanted me to realize that it was okay every once and awhile. Sometime between then and now I apparently became stupid with my money.
Another reason I know that this payment got overlooked is because I have so much on my plate. Between work, school, mom, wife, etc... it's getting a bit overwhelming. I hate looking around and seeing the place a wreck. I hate missing out on spending time with my child. I hate feeling like there aren't enough hours in the day. I hate not being able to relax without feeling guilty. I'm so failing at life right now and it's so hard to accept. I just want to be able to do what I need to do, do it well, and feel descent at the end of the day. I know I suck at time management, prioritizing, etc... and I try to improve, but I feel like I'm just sinking farther and farther into a hole.
Tomorrow is my 27th birthday and at the rate I'm going I'll be in debt until I die. It's so depressing. I don't feel like I buy anything for myself. I don't really even go shopping. I got a nice birthday present, a bill collector. Life is so hard and I wish that I could handle all my responsibility well and not feel like a failure. I guess I can be happy that Friday is almost over.

Art Festival Doubtful
Well we woke up all ready to go to the art festival today but it's now pouring cats and dogs. It was pretty cold yesterday, but I suppose we should have gone yesterday. Being as busy as I usually am I don't really get a chance to catch the news or weather forecasts, my own fault. It looks nasty outside, one of those days you just want to curl up on the couch and watch movies. We were going to go this morning and be home by the time Little Man needs to nap at around 1-1:30. I've always wanted to go to this and since this is our last February down here I thought this was our chance. Guess we'll have to plan a February vacation down here sometime and attend then.
I got my paper written last night along with my fourth discussion question posted. I had a lot of reading to catch up on so that's why I wanted to get it all done so we could enjoy the art festival today. We did end up going to the mall for a little while yesterday to get Little Man an outfit for his 2 year old pictures. I got a cute short overall outfit with a bug theme. They didn't have anythink really cute like they usually do but they were having a sale so I was happy about that. I wanted something a little summery looking since he already has a winter looking school picture. The weather is winter feeling though so I'm sure how the outfit is going to go with the weather tomorrow.
There are many phone calls and e-mails that I need to catch up on today and cleaning so maybe this was a good thing that the weather is crappy. We have Little Man's teacher coming over to watch him while we attend an event on Tuesday night so I want to make sure that the house isn't looking like a tornado went through. I remember when I used to babysit for kids at the daycare I used to work at, all the other teachers would always ask about the house and the decorating. I can tell you right now that we have zero decorating style because I never wanted to invest the time or money into an apartment. I always dreamed of decorating our first house. I probably should have just went ahead and done it because we'll probably never get a house and if we do there won't be a cent for decorating.
R did the taxes yesterday for three hours and we owe $2700, WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! He had $10,000 from his side job at the university in Michigan that was MAJORLY undertaxed and he didn't realize it until yesterday. Here we thought we were get around $900 back, but nope, we have to come up with almost three thousand dollars in a little less than 2 months. Here I've been desperately trying to save money for the move and now we're going to be lucky if we have any money left by the time the move rolls around! Money sucks! I hate the fact that whenever things seem like they are looking up, something ALWAYS comes up! I was just working on the budget yesterday and we were going to have extra money at the end of the month to put into savings, which very rarely happens because it's so expensive to live down here. Oh well I hope everything works out okay. The last thing I want to do is put things on our credit cards because I've been paying them off FOREVER.
Well we woke up all ready to go to the art festival today but it's now pouring cats and dogs. It was pretty cold yesterday, but I suppose we should have gone yesterday. Being as busy as I usually am I don't really get a chance to catch the news or weather forecasts, my own fault.
